Point of ViewSetting:
This story takes place in New York. It is from March 5 to July 28. The character, Charlie Gordon, leads a simple life working at a factory. It gives us a sense of sympathy as it describes how much Charlie wants to become clever.
Plot:
Introduction - Charlie is a retarded adult with a low IQ of 68. He is aged 37 and is attending a school for retarded adults. His teacher is Miss Kinnian.
Rising action - Charlie becomes smarter and realises alot of things
Climax - Charlie realises he is going to lose his intelligence and researches how to maintain his intelligence and stop the lost of it.
Falling action - Charlie gradually loses his intelligence. Algernon dies.
Denouement - Charlie accepts that he will lose his intelligence and decides to leave everything behind and moves away from New York.
Conflict:Man vs. Man - Charlie tries to beat Algernon in the race.
Man vs. Circumstances - Charlie finds out that his friends treated him as a fool all along.
Man vs. Society - Charlie finds out how the society looks at retarded people.
Man vs. Himself/Herself - Charlie knows he must accept that he is losing his intelligence yet he is atill feeling afraid.

- The story is told through Charlie's progress report where it is somewhat like a diary. He reveals his thoughts and feelings which I trust as he is a person who is really simple-minded, which means he has no hidden agendas and is a really honest person.
